Georgia State Defeats Georgia Southern on Senior Night

GSU finished the regular season with a 3-1 win at GSU Sports Arena

Box Score ATLANTA- Georgia State volleyball defeated familiar foe Georgia Southern 3-1 in front of a rowdy home crowd Friday night. Georgia State's win gives the Panthers a half point edge in the Rivalry Series.

This marked the last home match for the three seniors Madelyn Ott, Morgan Hash, and Sydney Stroud. Ott would record 10 kills, her fifth double-digit performance of the season. Stroud added nine kills and Hash tacked on two in the effort.

Lauren Bandera notched 17 digs. Bandera would record double-digit digs in every match but one this season. Bandera has recorded the seventh most digs by a Panther in a single season in program history with 482 in 2019.

The two squads would stay within two points of each other through the evenly matched opening frame. Meisheia Griffin would be the primary target for setters, throwing down four kills. The Panthers would hold on to take the set 25-23.

The Panthers and Eagles would continue to go back-and-forth, but Georgia Southern's ability to keep the ball in play would keep State on their toes. Down by five, the Panthers would save three set points. Despite the late effort, Georgia Southern would take the second 25-22 with a kill deep on the right side of State territory.

The Georgia State blockers would put on a show to open the third with four blocks. The Eagles would eventually find holes in the blocking scheme to take control of the set. Down by three, strong serves by freshmen Jillian Kilgroe and Kampbell Hehr would close the gap and help the Panthers en route to the 25-23 third set win.

Georgia State would record a .412 kill percentage en route to cruising to a 25-20 final set victory.
