GSU Volleyball Takes Trip to Arkansas for Two Conference Matches

Panthers look to snap three-game losing streak

ATLANTA- Georgia State women's volleyball is on the road for the second consecutive weekend. The Panthers will face Little Rock Friday evening before playing Arkansas State Saturday night.

GSU fell in two matches last weekend in Alabama, dropping the Panthers to 3-7 in conference action.

Georgia State's defense continues to set the Sun Belt standard. Meisheia Griffin leads the conference in blocks, averaging 1.14 blocks per set. Lauren Bandera ranks second in the Sun Belt with 4.65 digs per set.

Offensively, Leah Wilcox has led the team in kills for five consecutive matches. Sydney Stroud and Griffin continue to be primary hitters for the Panther, leading the team with 166 and 165 kills respectively.

The Panthers look to improve on a 2-7 overall record against the Trojans. Georgia State took last year's meeting 3-2 at GSU Sports Arena. Little Rock is coming off a 3-0 win over ULM last weekend. The Trojans are 2-7 in conference play.

Little Rock's roster consists of three seniors and welcomes seven freshmen to the team. The squad's offense is led by Carol Barbosa, who is averaging 3.63 kills per set. Diana Giordani leads the defensive effort and is the current Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week after posting 5.5 digs per set in the victory over ULM.

Georgia State will look to collect their first win against Arkansas State in program history. The Red Wolves are 4-5 in conference play, coming off a 3-0 loss at Louisiana last weekend.

Three Red Wolves have accumulated over 200 kills this season. The Panthers will have to find holes in the Arkansas State defense, which ranks second in the conference, averaging 15.85 digs per set.
