
ATLANTA -Catcher Nick Gatewood hit three home runs and drove in seven runs in three games last week. He went 5-for-12 with four extra-base hits for a .417 batting average and a 1.250 slugging percentage.
Gatewood's offensive production led the Panthers to a Friday night win over Sun Belt Conference preseason favorite South Alabama as he homered twice and drove in a career-high six runs in the Panthers' 7-2 victory. He hit a solo homer in the first, a three-run homer in the third and then a two-run single in the fourth. He also caught Hunter Gaddis' complete game.
Gatewood also homered in the Panthers' midweek game against Georgia, and he picked off a runner at second base against South Alabama.
The junior from Duluth, Ga., is Georgia State's leading hitter with a .368 average, seven homers, 20 RBI and 20 runs scored. He is second in the Sun Belt in homers and fourth in batting average.
