
ATLANTA -- Junior Makeba Ponder knocked down a game-winning 3-pointer against Georgai Southern on Saturday and is this week's Georgia State Student-Athlete of the Week, powered by the U.S. Marines.
Ponder hit three 3-pointers in a row in the closing moments, including a deep 3-pointer with 4.9 seconds left, to lift Georgia State over rival Georgia Southern 63-62 on Saturday.
Ponder finished with 20 points and sunk six long balls in the game. She also tallied five assists and two rebounds, including a big offensive board that led to a put-back plus a foul in the fourth quarter.
With the win, women's basketball swept the regular season series from the Eagles and clinched the No. 7 seed in this week's Sun Belt Championship.
Georgia State will open the conference championship at Lakefront Arena in New Orleans on Tuesday facing No. 10 South Alabama at 6 p.m. ET live on WatchESPN.
