Panthers to Face Bucs, Blazers in ETSU Shootout

ATLANTA- The Georgia State men's tennis team will head to Johnson City, Tenn. to face ETSU and UAB in the ETSU Shootout this weekend for the first of a three-match road stretch.

The Panthers are 6-5 overall (1-1 SBC) this season, following a 1-1 split in the opening weekend of conference play. GSU cruised to a 6-1 victory over Louisiana but stumbled in a 6-1 loss at South Alabama.

The team opened the season with a 3-1 record and its only loss to Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn., but has gone 3-4 since competing in the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Panthers are looking to rebound with a 2-0 weekend in the ETSU Shootout, where they went 2-0 last year.

Georgia State continues to be led by No. 84 Zackery Kennedy, who is 4-4 at the No. 1 position and 6-5 overall. Andrei Andrukhou and Jack MacFarlane are also among the singles leaders, with Andrukhou 5-2 playing primarily at the No. 3 position and MacFarlane on a two-match winning streak.

ETSU is 1-3 this season, and on a one-match winning-streak. The Bucs most recently earned their first win of the season two weeks ago over Virginia Tech in a 4-3 victory. The team is home to three top-100 ITA players, No. 69 Robert Herrera, No. 88 David Biosca, and No. 96 Diego Nunez.

UAB is 4-0 this season, with wins over Lipscomb, North Alabama, and Alabama-Huntsville. The Blazers will face host ETSU Friday afternoon, before wrapping up play against the Panthers on Saturday.

GSU will face UAB on Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. before facing host ETSU on Feb. 18 at 1:30 p.m.
