ATLANTA-Georgia State volleyball fell in straight sets to South Alabama Saturday night (25-23, 25-17, 25-18). The Panthers fell to 2-6 in conference play. The Jaguars are now a perfect 8-0.
South Alabama hopped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening frame, but Georgia State would not go away quietly eventually gaining a 15-14 advantage. The remainder of the set would remain tight, before the Jaguars pulled away for a two-point win.
A pair of kills from Sydney Stroud gave the Panthers an early lead in the second frame. But South Alabama, propelled by a 5-0 and 3-0 runs would build a sizable lead. The Jaguars would cruise to an eight-point win.
The teams were tied at fifteen in set three before a 4-1 scoring run for South Alabama would give them a three-point cushion. Eventually the Jaguars would pull away for a 25-18 set win, and clinch a 3-0 match victory.
Crystal Lee led all players with 12 kills on the night. Carley Eiken added 19 assists, and Celeste Friesen delivered 10 digs and two aces.
The Panthers will travel to the Longhorn State for a pair of matches next weekend. Georgia State will take on UT Arlington Friday and battle Texas State on Saturday. Both matches have a 6:30 p.m. start time.
