What you need to know:
* Georgia State announced its non-conference schedule Friday which includes a Thanksgiving trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
* The Panthers will also host a home tournament Dec. 20-21 with Harvard, Akron and Elon visiting the Sports Arena.
* GSU starts the season with the Mickey Wells Classic Nov. 11-12 in Morehead, Ky.
ATLANTA – Georgia State women's basketball head coach Sharon Baldwin-Tener announced the 11-game non-conference schedule for 2016-17 on Friday, consisting of five home games in the GSU Sports Arena.
“We are very excited about this challenging non-conference schedule,” Baldwin-Tener said. “We have some tough competition and a good mixture of home and away contests as well as some on a neutral floor. These challenges will help prepare us for the tough conference schedule that begins after Christmas.”
The Panthers will begin the new season in Morehead, Ky., with two contests at the Mickey Wells Classic on Nov. 11-12. GSU will take on host Morehead State and Eastern Michigan before returning to Atlanta for the the home opener against Allen (S.C.) on Nov. 16. Once again this season, all home games will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
After hosting two more home games against UNCW and Kennesaw State, the Panthers embark on a Thanksgiving trip to Puerto Rico for the San Juan Shootout. GSU will play Penn State and American at the tournament during the four-day trip.
Georgia State will play two straight games against Power 5 opponents, visiting Georgia Tech on Dec. 3 and Alabama on Dec. 15.
Wrapping up the non-conference schedule is the GSU Holiday Tournament on Dec. 20-21. GSU will play host to Akron, Harvard and Elon. GSU will take on Harvard on the first day before facing the winner of Akron vs. Elon on Day 2.
GSU will begin its Sun Belt campaign with a road game at rival Georgia Southern on Dec. 31.
