For the second straight day, the Texas State (26-22, 13-10 Sun Belt) was outstanding. Starter Jonathan Hennirgan allowed one run on five hits with eight strikeouts in five innings of work, and Chase Hodson finished the game with five strikeouts in four scoreless innings.

Entering the series, Georgia State (22-25, 8-15 Sun Belt) was second in the Sun Belt in fewest strikeouts, but the Panthers have fanned 23 times in the two games.

After Texas State jumped in front 2-0 in the first inning on Ryan Newman's two-run homer, the Panthers answered in the second as Hood led off with a single and then James Clements doubled down the left field line to put runners at second and third with no outs. Gonzalez brought home one run with his groundout, but the Panthers left the bases loaded.

GSU also left runners at second and third in the third inning, and then Texas State scored two in the third and one in the fourth to move ahead 5-1 off start Marc-Andre Habeck (1-4). The score remained that way until the Bobcats broke the game open with five runs in the eighth.
