Georgia State's seven-meet outdoor track and field season opens Saturday, March 12 at Jacksonville (Ala.) State. The Panthers will compete with Georgia Southern, Mercer and Jacksonville State in the opening-weekend JSU Quad. Division 2 teams North Georgia, West Georgia and North Alabama will also compete in a separate division for scoring.
The meet begins at noon CT (1 p.m. ET) with field events, then the running events begin at 1 p.m. CT (2 p.m. ET) on the Jacksonville State campus. The GSU outdoor season leads up to the Sun Belt Championships May 13-15 in Lafayette, La. with the NCAA First Round competition May 26-28 in Jacksonville, Fla.
GSU's strong squad, that has finished second in the Sun Belt in each of the past two years, will take 27 participants to Jacksonville State to compete in six field events and 10 running events. Not all competitors will enter their primary event in order to get more overall training with other events.
Among Georgia State's leaders are throwers LaPorscha Wells, Alysiah Whittaker and Tracy Dorcemont, along with runners Ravin Gilbert, Nuria Ramirez and Stephanie Berger.
