ATLANTA - Two high school seniors have signed national letters of intent to play at Georgia State, head coach Sharon Baldwin-Tener announced Wednesday. The class includes Rakeah Williams of Westlake H.S. and Deja Mitchell of Duluth H.S.
“We are very excited about the addition of these two young ladies to our program,” Baldwin-Tener said. “They will both help bolster our inside game with the loss of our seniors this year. They are great students and people and come from two great programs in the state of Georgia. We look forward to adding them to our Panther family.”
Rakeah Williams | Forward/Center | 6'1 | Westlake H.S. | Atlanta, Ga.
Williams played two season at Westlake after beginning her high school career at Arlington Christian School… She earned a spot on the GHSA 6A All-State, GACA All-State and AJC All-State teams in 2016… She was also named the GACA Junior South All-Star team MVP this year after helping guide Westlake to the GHSA Elite Eight for the second straight year… At Arlington Christian, Williams took her team to the GISA Final Four in 2013-14 and to the title game in 2012-13… She was named all-region and all-state in both 2013 and 2014 by the GISA… This year, she played on the EBYL Nike National Championship Team and Team Elite Pointer and received an ESPN Hoopgurlz mention.
“Rakeah is a rebounding machine. She will bring in size and athleticism in the paint and will be a force for us around the rim,” Baldwin-Tener said. “She's very skilled at her position.”
Deja Mitchell | Forward/Guard | 6'0 | Duluth H.S. | Duluth, Ga.
Mitchell led Duluth in scoring in 2015-16 and was first team all-region and second team all-county… She earned Gwinnett Tip-Off Club Team of the Month honors in November and December… In 2014-15, Mitchell was named MVP of the West Forsyth Wolverine Winter Classic… According the MaxPreps.com, Mitchell averaged nearly a double-double as a junior with 14.5 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game.
“Deja has good length and athleticism that makes her strong in the interior,” Baldwin-Tener said. “She's a competitor who has the ability to slash and attack the rim from both the high post and the baseline.”
