ATLANTA – Georgia State's volleyball team completed a perfect weekend, beating UL Lafayette 3-1 (22-25, 25-11, 26-24, 25-14) Saturday night in the Sports Arena. It was the second conference win in as many days for the Panthers.

“Tonight we battled against a very scrappy defensive team in ULL,” head coach Sally Polhamus said. “Our defense did a great job and was consistent all match. Another great team effort!”

The defense held UL Lafayette to .081 hitting on the night while four players recorded double-digit digs. Senior Gabby Serafin led the way with 25 and fellow senior Natalia Nieto was right behind with 19. Georgia State's offense moved through junior Kristina Stinson for the second match in as many days. Stinson tallied 21 kills on .400 hitting and added two aces.

ULL rallied to win Set 1, holding its first lead at 22-21. After dropping the first set, GSU came out on fire in Set 2, hitting .312 behind seven kills from Stinson. ULL rallied again in the third set, but this time the Panthers fought back from down 24-22 to win 26-24.

The Panthers were up 12-9 in Set 4, but that would be as close as the Ragin' Cajuns would get. GSU used two aces from senior Deidra Bohannon to extend the lead for good and win the set 25-14 and the match 3-1. Stinson closed out her night with six more kills in the final frame and Nieto had a single assists, a ball that set up Bohannon for the final point.

“Everybody played with passion this weekend, that's what made it so much fun to play in these matches,” Stinson said. “We played Georgia State volleyball and played like we expected to win. We have to keep playing consistent volleyball the rest of the season.”

Georgia State (5-16, 2-10 SBC) is home for the third weekend in a row next week as Arkansas State and Georgia Southern come to Atlanta. The Georgia Southern match on Saturday has been moved back from 6 p.m. to 6:30.
