Hunter Named NABC District Coach of the Year

KANSAS CITY-Georgia State head coach Ron Hunter has been named the NABC UPS District 24 Coach of the Year as announced by the National Association of Basketball Coaches on Wednesday. It adds to the award list for Hunter who led the Panthers to 25 wins and the Postseason NIT this season.

Earlier this month, Hunter was named the Sun Belt Coach of the Year after Georgia State went 17-1 in conference play and earned the league's regular season championship. This week, Hunter was named a finalist for the Ben Jobe Award and Hugh Durham Award, a pair of awards given annually to some of the best coaches in college basketball.

Hunter, now in his third season at the helm of the Panthers, guided Georgia State to the second-most in program history, and the school's second Postseason NIT appearance. Georgia State won a school record 14 straight games at one point during the season and was ranked as high at No. 7 in CollegeInsider.com's Mid-Major Poll.

Hunter has won 62 games in his first three years at GSU which are the most for any coach in their first three seasons. He has led Georgia State to 20 or more games in two of his three seasons – which has only happened three other times in GSU history.
