Softball Signs Six-Pack of Talented Players

ATLANTA – Six high school seniors signed national letters of intent to play at Georgia State, head coach Roger Kincaid announced. The class includes Lexi Bates, Mandy Chance, Ambria Derry, Remington Hasty, Arden Jobe and Reagan Morgan.

“It is always exciting when you get a chance to add new student-athletes to your program,” Kincaid said. “This class will help us replace what is a strong and deep senior class with our current team. Each member of the 2015 class brings a unique skill set that will allow each to compete for playing time. We look forward to getting them on the field next fall and getting to work”

Lexi Bates (Infielder, Mount Paran)

A native of Kennesaw, Ga., Lexi Bates was a three-year starter at Kennesaw Mountain High School before playing her senior season at Mount Paran Christian School under head coach Mic Knox. A first baseman and catcher, she is a two-time all-region selection and led her team to two region titles. This season, Bates led region in slugging percentage and on-base percentage and finished with a team-high .512 batting average. She is a scholar athlete and member of the National Society of High School Scholars. Bates plays travel softball for the Georgia Force.

  
Mandy Chance (Pitcher, Collins Hill)
Mandy Chance, from Suwanee, Ga., was a four-year starter for Collins Hill High School for head coach Paul Pierce. The pitcher led her team to two state titles and two region championships. She helped her team win the state championship as a freshman in 2011 and Collins Hill finished third in 2012. Chance was named all-state, all-county, all-region and Georgia Dugout Club player of the year after posting a 17-3 record as a junior. This season she posted 16-4 mark and was an all-county selection. Chance plays her travel softball for the Georgia Impact.
  
 Ambria Derry (Infielder, Hillgrove)
Ambria Derry, from Powder Springs, Ga., was a four-year letterwinner at Hillgrove High School under head coach Laura Voyles. She played mostly at third base and shortstop but has also played several other positions when necessary. Derry led her team to the state playoffs after each season and helped Hillgrove finish third in 2011 and second this season. She had a very successful travel softball career, winning several championships with the West Cobb Chaos and finishing fifth at nationals with the Georgia Force in 2012. She currently plays her travel softball for the Atlanta Vipers.
  
Remington Hasty (Outfielder, Buford)
Hailing from Grayson, Ga., Remington Hasty was a four-year letter winner at Buford High School for head coach Tony Wolfe. The outfielder helped her team win four straight state championships to up the school streak to eight-consecutive titles overall. Hasty was named to the Gwinnett Dugout Team of the Year this season and is a two-time all-state, all-region and all-county selection. An honor student, she plays her travel softball for the Georgia Impact, which finished third at ASA nationals in 2011 and third at the Premier Nationals in 2012.
  
Arden Jobe (Catcher, Newnan)

A native of Newnan, Ga., Arden Jobe was a four-year letter winner at Newnan High School under head coach Carrie Gilmore. She has been an all-county and all-region selection in addition to an all-state honorable mention honoree as a sophomore. Jobe was named Coweta County Newcomer of the Year as a freshman and was chosen as Game Day magazine's student-athlete of the month in October of last season. She will graduate with honors and is a Georgia Merit Scholar. Jobe plays her travel softball for the East Cobb Bullets Gold.

  
Reagan Morgan (Outfielder, Collins Hill)
Reagan Morgan, from Lawrenceville, Ga., was a three-year starter at Collins Hill High School for head coach Paul Pierce. She helped her team win the state championship in 2013 and a region championship this season while playing right field and second base. Morgan is an all-county and all-region selection and holds the single-season school record for hits and stolen bases. Off the field she posted a 3.97 GPA, received a scholar-athlete award in 2013 and was a member of the Senior Cabinet at Collins Hill. Morgan players her travel softball for the Atlanta Vipers. 

Georgia State returns nine field players who started 25 games or more and hit 54 of the team's record setting 59 home runs. In the circle, the Panthers return three pitchers with a minimum of 10 appearances last season and welcomes a talented transfer.

GSU looks to improve upon its third place finish in the Sun Belt last season and seeks its ninth straight 30-win season. The Panthers open the regular season against SEC foe Auburn on Feb. 12 in the first game of the Tiger Invitational. Georgia State then returns to Atlanta to host the Panther Invitational.
