Volleyball Concludes Season with 3-1 Loss to USA

ATLANTA - The 2013 Georgia State volleyball team saw its season come to an end Sunday with a 3-1 loss to South Alabama. The Panthers will finish the season with a 9-23 record, 4-14 in the Sun Belt.

South Alabama (14-14, 9-9) will head to Troy, Ala., to compete in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. 

The Jaguars won the match 23-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-18. 

In her final match as a Panther, senior libero Emily Averbeck had 16 digs. This brings her career total 1,673 and 581 this season. She is owns both of Georgia State's records in career digs and digs in a single season. Averbeck also had three assists and two service aces. 

Leading the Panthers offensively were sophomores Dede Bohannon and Eliza Zachary. Bohannon had 14 kills while Zachary had 10. Freshman Kristina Stinson added in another eight. The Panthers struggled to hit consistently, finishing the match with a .093 hitting percentage.

Defensively, sophomore Natalia Nieto had 37 assists and 13 digs. Sophomore Gabby Serafin had 13 digs as well. The team had five blocks, two solo blocks coming from Zachary and Stinson. 

The Panthers will return all but one player next season.
