ATLANTA – The Panthers rode senior Jamiee Freeman's
double-double to defeat Mercer 3-1 Saturday at the GSU Invitational. With the
win, GSU improved to 2-7 on the season while Mercer fell to 2-4.
Freeman led GSU with 18 kills and 15 digs to pick up her
second double-double of the season. Freshman Syndey Hunsley was second in
scoring with 10 kills to go along with two block assists.
Eliza Zachary was tops in blocking for GSU with six bloc
assists and one solo rejection. Sophomore Andrea Book posted four block assists
while fellow sophomore Andrea Ezell earned six.
Freshman Natalia Nieto led the Panthers with 22 assists
while Emily Averbeck posted 24 digs.
Mercer took the first set 25-18, but GSU managed to get its
offense going in the second set to edge the Bears 25-23.
In the third set the Panthers cruised to a 10-point, 25-15,
win and in the fourth set Freeman blasted seven kills and three block assists
to seal the set 25-21.
The Panthers face South Alabama in the GSU Invitational
finale at 7 p.m.
