Hodges Resigns as Head Coach of Men's Tennis

ATLANTA--Georgia State men's tennis head coach Chase Hodges announced his resignation today after a successful three-year run as the leader of the men's tennis program. A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately.

Hodges led Georgia State to a 56-17 record in his three years, including a 20-5 mark in 2011-12 for the Panthers' third straight winning season. Named the 2011-12 CAA Co-Coach of the Year, Hodges guided four different players to All-CAA honors in three years at the helm.

Hodges leaves Georgia State to lead the men's and women's tennis programs at Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville, Ga., which begins play in 2012-13. Hodges will also manage the Collins Hill Tennis and Fitness Center, which was recently acquired by Georgia Gwinnett College, as part of his duties. The center is just off the campus of GGC and includes four clay and 12 hardcourt tennis courts, an outdoor recreational pool, an office, locker room and weight room.

"I would like to thank President Mark Becker, Director of Athletics Cheryl Levick and all the people at Georgia State for the amazing opportunity to be the head coach of the men's tennis program," Hodges said, "I am extremely proud of how far the program has come in three years and feel the foundation for success has been laid. I will forever be grateful to Georgia State for my experience these past three years."

Hodges engineered a remarkable turnaround in his time at GSU. The Panthers went from 1-20 in 2009 to a 15-6 mark in 2010 under Hodges, the biggest turnaround in the NCAA that season. In 11 seasons as a head coach Hodges owns a 198-61 career record after successful stints at Longwood (2002), UNC Asheville (2003-05) and Drake (2006-09) prior to GSU.

Georgia State begins its 2012-13 campaign with the fall season set to begin in September. Check the men's tennis page on www.GeorgiaStateSports.com for updates throughout the summer.
