Steeplechase Victory Highlights Mississippi Open

OXFORD, Miss. — Alison Bishop's victory in the women's 3,000m steeplechase highlighted the Mississippi Open for the Georgia State track and field teams Sat., April 14.

Bishop ran a 11:28.95, the third fastest time in the CAA this season, to pace two of her GSU teammates, Kacee Houle and Anna Sinclair, who finished fourth and fifth in the event. 

Niamh Kearney contributed a second place finish in the 1,500m in 4:36.58 and ran 2:16.25 in the 800m to place seventh. Kearney ran in the 800m race, finishing seventh.

On the men's side of the 1,500m, Valentin Poncelet came in fifth place and Tyler Tomy was 11th.

Tomy also contributed a third place finish during the men's 5,000m race, which also saw Panthers Austin Boetje and Chris Manning place fifth and eighth. In the women's 5,000m, Jennifer Rubel finished in fourth, while Kelsey Spinks placed 9th and Ansley Lawson was 10th.

Tamara Moore was third in the 100m hurdles and fourth in the 400m hurdles. Teammate Leah Norman was fifth in the 400m hurdles and came in 10th in the 100m hurdles.

Hurdling for the men's team, Kacey Rollins placed sixth in the 100m hurdles and 19th in the 400m hurdles. Senior Chris Harper placed seventh in the men's 800m by running 1:54.77.

In the field events, women's basketball standout Chandra Harris competed in the high jump for the first time since her freshman year, placing seventh with a jump of 1.6m (5' 2”).

The Panthers continue competition this weekend, April 20-21 by traveling to Auburn, Ala. for the War Eagle meet.
