Track Competes at Georgia Intercollegiate in Atlanta

ATLANTA — Two individual victories and six second place finishes comprised the first day of the Georgia Intercollegiate meet for the Georgia State track and field teams Friday.

Katharine Showalter won the steeplechase in dominating fashion, lapping the rest of the field and falling just short of a personal best with a time of 10:53.29.

Senior sprinter Charlesha Lightbourne captured a first place finish in the 200m in 24.09 and second place in the 400m in 56.89.

Georgia State earned second place finishes on both the men's and women's sides of the 800m as Julian Black ran a 1:59.10 for the men and Niamh Kearney ran 2:14.46 for the women.

Hurdler Tamara Moore was second in the 100m hurdles and eighth in the 400m hurdles, while teammates Leah Norman got a pair of fourth place finishes in the two events.

The throwers started the day strong as Caressa Reeves and Syndey Henry captured second and third place in the shot put, while Kesean Henderson took fourth in the hammer throw.

In the women's 5,000m, the Panthers took four of the top seven slots. Sophomore Anna Sinclair led the way by finishing third, while Hannah Stefanoff, Kacee Houle and Jennifer Rubel placed fifth through seventh. Tyler Tomy and Austen Boetje placed fifth and seventh respectively in the men's 5,000m.

Chris Harper won the unseeded heat of the men's 1,500m in 3:58.43. The GSU women took second through fourth in the women's unseeded 1,500 as Zanny Anderson, Ansley Lawson and Katie Papesh finished sequentially.
