Track Teams Conclude Competition at Vulcan Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Georgia State men's and women's track and field teams concluded their third trip to Birmingham at the two-day Vulcan Invite Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11.

The 3,000m race produced good results on both sides for the Panthers. Valentin Poncelet finished second for the men with a time of 8:15.26. Hannah Stefanoff (10:07.33) and Anna Sinclair (10:08.40) placed eighth and ninth respectively for the GSU women.

In the women's 5,000m, Jennifer Rubel (18:26.67) placed third for the second time this season, while her teammate Alison Bishop (18:52.5) came in fifth. Austin Boetje clocked a 15:48.29 to come in 10th in the men's race.

Freshman Niamh Kearney finished sixth in the women's 800m in 2:15.68 and later 11th in the mile with a time of 5:05.10. Senior sprinter Charlesha Lightbourne also had two top finishes for Georgia State in the 60m (10th, 7.75) and 200m (8th, 25.13).

Hurdler Kasey Rollins ran an 8.35 to qualify for the finals of the men's 60m hurdles, where he placed 13th. Tamara Moore finished 11th in the women's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.86.

The Panthers have one final meet remaining on the indoor track and field schedule. The Sewanee Invite will take place in Sewanee, Tenn., on Sat. Feb. 25.
