ATLANTA--Patrick Miller had 14 points and eight assists and Jay Harris added 12 points as Tennessee State (1-3) defeated South Alabama, 68-57, on day one of the Coaches vs. Cancer Subregional in Atlanta, played at the Georgia State Sports Arena.
Tennessee State never trailed in the game, jumping to a 13-2 lead and then taking a 36-24 advantage into the locker room. The Jaguars (2-1) pulled within 38-35 early in the second half, but TSU scored the next four points and never led by less than five points the rest of the way.
The Tigers outrebounded South Alabama, 46-31, led by Robert Covington, who pulled down rebounds to go along with nine points.
Augustine Rubit led South Alabama with 21 points.
