Georgia State quarterback Bo Schlechter has been named FCS Independent Player of the Week by College Sports Madness for his performance in the Panthers' season-opening, 41-7 win over Clark Atlanta.
Playing his first game at quarterback, Schlechter completed 13 of 18 passes for 196 yards and three touchdowns while directing a GSU offense that committed no turnovers. He threw a 12-yard touchdown to Jordan Giles and scoring passes of 30 and 48 yards to Albert Wilson, the latter the longest in GSU history.
The sophomore from Wellington, Fla., rushed nine times for 27 yards.
Also Georgia State's starting punter, Schlechter kicked four times for a 39.0 average, with a long of 50 yards and two punts inside the 20-yard line. His net was 38.8.
Georgia State (1-0) hosts Old Dominion Saturday at 12 noon at the Georgia Dome.
