Meet the Panthers at Sunday's Block Party

Georgia State students, alumni and fans are invited to the second annual GSU Block Party, presented by Georgia's Own Credit Union, on Sunday, Aug. 21, from 4-7 p.m. in Hurt Park and on Gilmer Street.

It is the annual fan day with the chance for students and supporters to meet and greet the student-athletes, get autographs and pose for pictures. The GSU football, volleyball, soccer and cross country teams will all be on hand, along with the cheerleaders. And, it's all free.

New games include a mechanical bull ride, a rock wall climb, a golf driving range, matches with gigantic boxing gloves and Games2U's Video Game Theater and 4D ride. The carnival atmosphere will also include the carnival-style games to win prizes.

There will be a variety of free food. Among the tents and tables will be J.R. Crickets, who will provide 10,000 free wings.

Target's area with include freebies like Snicker's, Skittles and M&M's, plus even free Tide samples for that chore. Target has organized a special GSU Night that evening (Aug. 21) at 9:30 p.m., when the store at Atlantic Station will be open to only GSU students. Time to shop and get organized for the year ahead.

The Army ROTC will have its unique interactive trailer.

The Block Party is brought to the student body by various university departments: Spotlight program board, new student orientation and parent relations, enrollment services, university housing and GSU Athletics.

Live music will keep you entertained.

It's outside, but there are plenty of shade trees in the area and cool, refreshing beverages.

The Block Party presented by Georgia's Own Credit Union follows the Freshman Convocation earlier that afternoon.
