Georgia State men's tennis head coach Chase Hodges announced the addition of Ismael Lahlou, the two-time Moroccan National Champion, to the team this year.
Lahlou hails from Casablanca, Morocco. He ranked as high as No. 193 in the ITF Tennis Junior Rankings and was recently ranked No. 207 as of Aug. 15. He was also a member of the Moroccan Davis Cup team.
"I'm very excited to have Ismael at Georgia State," Hodges said. "Ismael will be an outstanding student-athlete for us and has aspirations to play professional tennis after his time here in Atlanta."
Lahlou will be counted upon to contribute immediately as the Panthers look to build on last spring's record-setting season. Hodges led GSU to a 21-6 mark in 2011, breaking the school record for wins in a season, and three Georgia State players posted 20-plus individual wins, including rising sophomore Vincent Verpeaux, who won a GSU-record 24 matches.
Lahlou, Hodges said, is expected to have a large role with the team in his first season.
"I feel that Ismael will contribute immediately and will play a major role in the success of our team as a freshman," Hodges said.
