Freshman Thomas Cook from Lilburn, Ga. was featured on the home page of the new Colonial Athletic Association student-athlete website, WeAreTheCAA.com. Cook is 15-8 in singles heading into the conference championships, which begin Friday.
Georgia native Thomas Cook, a four-star tennis recruit and the state's top-ranked player coming out of high school, is currently enjoying a 15-8 singles record as a freshman at Georgia State. He was ushered into the Panther program as part of head coach Chase Hodges' recruiting class that was ranked fourth-best among mid-major men's tennis programs last year, according to TennisRecruiting.net.
Being touted as the state's top-ranked player is a tremendous honor for any athlete, but it is particularly impressive for a player like Cook, who was prohibited from stepping on the court for months after suffering several severe injuries stemming from a serious car accident. Many spectators are unaware of Cook's involvement in the wreck that occurred just a couple years ago, in which the young player suffered a broken back, broken ribs and punctured lungs.
