Volleyball Drops Pair to ACC Foes

Clemson, S.C. - The Georgia State volleyball team concluded the Clemson Classic with a pair of 3-0 losses to Clemson and Georgia Tech on Saturday afternoon. Junior Muki Kangwa earned all-tournament honors for the second time in as many weeks, leading the Panthers to a third place.

The Panthers opened the day with a 16-25, 6-25, 22-25 loss to the host Tigers. Kangwa scored eight kills on 18 attacks for a .389 attack percentage, while adding a pair of digs.

In the afternoon match, Tech swept the Panthers in three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-21. Kangwa scored seven kills and a pair of blocks to earn recognition after being named to the DePaul Invitational team last weekend.

With the pair of losses, Georgia State fell to 6-7 as the squad prepares to begin CAA action next weekend.

Senior Ashley Jones led the offense with 10 kills and eight digs in the opener, while redshirt-junior Vineece Verdun scored eight kills on 20 attempts.

Clemson scored double-digit kills from Natalie Patzin and Moneshia Simmons, who scored 13 and 10 kills respectively.

With the win, Clemson improved to 9-2 on the season.

Junior Chelsea Perry added 26 assists, while redshirt-senior Audrey Cantrell added a team high 10 digs.

Ashley Jones scored a team-high 11 kills against the Panthers cross-town rival Georgia Tech in the nightcap, adding nine digs.

Verdun scored seven kills, while Raquel Jones added six. Freshman Veronica Chandre scored a career-high 20 assists, while Perry added 12 as the duo split setter duties.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Monique Mead's 18 kills on 31 attempts, earning a .516 attack percentage. Mead added nine digs, while Jordan McCullers led Tech with 13.

Bailey Hunter added 10 kills and six digs as the Yellow Jackets improved to 7-5 on the season.

The Panthers will begin CAA action next Saturday at UNC Wilmington. State does not return home until October 1st when Delaware travels to the GSU Sports Arena.
