Among the many tasks involved in starting a football program from scratch is the look of the team uniforms.

Naturally this process began with director of athletics Cheryl L. Levick and head coach Bill Curry, and it included major coordination from executive senior associate director of athletics James Greenwell and equipment manager Jay Bailey.

From the beginning, the goal was to combine classic and traditional styling with contemporary elements to produce a look that fits the image of Georgia State University.

The process of designing the football uniform really began more than a year ago when the GSU athletics department teamed with the University's creative services staff to rebrand Georgia State athletics with an updated look and new logos.

The result was a palette of logos, including the fiercer, more lifelike Panther, a “Georgia State” word mark and the sleek “GSU” that adorns the helmet.

The helmet will be shiny metallic blue. The GSU letters on the helmet represent a new era in Georgia State history with the unveiling of our football program. The red underline of GSU represents the red fire used in city emblem of Atlanta for the burning of the city and its subsequent rise to prominence.

The Georgia State blue jersey represents all of the GSU athletics teams, and symbolizes confidence, strength and unity. The new brand utilizes the “Sparks” font, which was designed specifically for Georgia State athletics and named after the University's first President, Dr. George McIntosh Sparks.
On the uniform jersey, the Sparks font is used for the numerals and “PANTHERS” lettering across the front, giving the GSU jersey a truly unique look; no else in the nation has this font. Two stripes are on each sleeve to honor the proud tradition of southern football.

The pants are the school color white to represent honesty and integrity. The newly created fierce Panther head logo will be on the left hip of the pants.

On the road, the team can wear white jerseys with blue lettering.

The inaugural game is set for September 2nd at the Georgia Dome at 7:30 p.m. The Panthers will be in their new blue uniforms and the team encourages all fans to wear blue to this historic game.
