Natasha Berry drove in the game's only run with a sixth-inning double and
Ashley Cowan and
Madi Gore combined to shut out Hofstra, 1-0, in the first game of a Colonial Athletic Association softball doubleheader Saturday at
Bob Heck Field. Hofstra won the second game, 5-2, to earn a split and maintain a one-half game lead over the Panthers at the top of the CAA standings.
Freshman catcher
Catherine Lee belted her 12th homer of the season in game two, tying the Georgia State single season record, held by Katie Blue in 2003.

Danielle Roddy, who beat out an infield single. With Georgia State (28-11, 7-3 CAA) clinging to a 1-0 lead in the seventh, leftfielder
Holly Willis gunned down the potential tying run at the plate to end the game and preserve the Panthers' victory.
Gore earned the win in relief, tossing 1-2/3 innings and allowing three hits while walking none. Starter
Ashley Cowan did not allow a run on nine hits in 5-1/3 innings of work, with two strikeouts and two walks. Hofstra managed 12 hits but left 12 runners on base.
In game two, Hofstra (26-10, 8-3 CAA) rallied to score five runs in the top of the fifth when Courtney Oliver hit a two-run double after junior Casey Fee and freshman Sara Michalowski reached on two singles. Michele DePasquale walked, putting runners on first and second. With another Pride single and a double from Pam Dreslinski, Hofstra ran to a 5-1 lead.
The Panthers could only get back one off Lee's homer in the bottom of the seventh, putting the final score at 5-2.
The two teams conclude their three-game series Sunday at 11 a.m. at
Bob Heck Field.
