ATLANTA?Catherine Lee homered and drove in four runs in game one, and Danielle Roddy delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh inning in game two as the Georgia State softball team swept a doubleheader from Harvard, 10-2 (5) and 6-5, Monday at Bob Heck Field.
The Panthers have won six straight games to improve their record to 24-6 on the season.
After cruising to a five-inning victory in game one, Georgia State fell behind 5-1 in the nightcap before scoring five runs over the final three innings, capped by Roddy's RBI single with the bases loaded.
Trailing 5-1, State scored three runs in the fifth as Rachel Cunningham delivered a two-run single and then Lauren Jones added a run-scoring single, bringing the Panthers within 5-4. Still down by one run in its final at-bat, State tied the game on a single by Alicia Mills, driving in Cunningham, who had reached on an error. The Panthers then loaded the bases with one out, and Roddy, the sophomore third baseman from Canton, Ga., drove the ball over the leftfielder's head to plate the winning run.
Ashley Cowan (5-1) pitched 4-2/3 innings in relief of starter Madi Gore to earn the victory. Cowan allowed one run on seven hits while striking out four.
In game one, Lee belted her 10th home run of the season with a two-run blast in the fourth inning, leaving her just two shy of the Georgia State season record. The freshman catcher from Covington, Ga., also contributed an RBI double in the first and a run-scoring single in the fifth and finished 5-for-7 for the doubleheader.
