Starting their final round trip of the season, the Georgia State Volleyball fell to James Madison, 3-0, on Friday night. The Panthers (3-24, 2-11 CAA) were led by sophomore Ashley Jones who fell just short of a nation-leading seventh triple-double of the season.
Entering Friday night's play, Jones was one triple-double ahead of North Dakota State's Jennifer Lopez for the national lead with six. The sophomore scored 10 kills, 15 assists and seven digs, while freshman Torrie Brown scored seven kills and hit .294.
The two teams exchanged points early in the match before State took a 9-6 lead on ace by redshirt-sophomore Audrey Cantrell. An 8-2 run by the Dukes (12-18, 5-8 CAA) put James Madison up 14-11. Although State would cut the lead to two at 21-19, James Madison would win the final four points to take the first set 25-19.
The Dukes would come out strong in the second set and take a commanding 9-4 lead on a kill by Michelle Johnson. A kill by Jones late in the set would cut the deficit to six, but that would be the closest State would get as the Dukes took the second set, 25-15.
State would come out strong in the third set and take a 5-2 lead on a kill by Brown. The Panthers would expand their lead to four at 10-6 on an attack error by Lindsay Callahan. The Panthers would continue to hold the lead and on a kill by sophomore Rachel Boryc, hold a 20-16 lead approaching the end of the set. However, the Dukes would use a 6-0 run to take a two-point lead and never trail again, taking the third and final set 25-23.
Freshman Chelsea Perry added 11 assists, while Cantrell tied for the team high with seven digs.
Kelsey McNamara led James Madison with a double-double of 16 kills and 16 digs, while Callahan added eight. Lauren Miles added a match-high 34 assists.
Georgia State will play its final match of the season on the road Saturday night. The Panthers will take George Mason at 7:00 p.m. in the season finale.
