Ada Bazin

Ada Bazin is in her second year as the Panthers assistant coach. She came to Georgia State after spending two seasons as the assistant coach at the UT-Martin.

Bazin overseas all parts of the teams' recruiting and travel schedules, while also coordinating fund-raising and community involvement activities. Over the past two seasons, the team raised almost $4000 for the American Cancer Society with their Breast Cancer Awareness matches, while also raising just under $1000 for the victims of Haiti after an earthquake struck the country. Bazin also provides her knowledge of team defense, serve receive and serving instruction to the team.

During the 2009 season, Bazin helped lead the Panthers to their second biggest turnaround in school history as the team finished the year 16-14. Over the course of the season, three members of the team earned a combined eight all-tournament honors, while Ashley Jones earned All-CAA Third Team honors for the second year in a year, while Jamiee Freeman was named to the All-CAA Rookie Team.

Under Bazin's instruction, libero Audrey Cantrell blossomed into one of the top liberos in the CAA and set a new school record with 531 digs during 2009.

During her rookie campaign at UT-Martin, Bazin helped the Skyhawks finish with an 18-13 overall record, a 13-win improvement over the 2005 squad and most wins in a season since 2002. In 2006, UTM ranked first in the 11-team Ohio Valley Conference in total blocks, second in opponent hitting percentage and fourth in service aces. The Skyhawks finished 50th nationally in blocks per game and second in the OVC.

While the Skyhawks struggled to register wins in 2007, UTM finished the season ranked second in the OVC in total blocks and fifth in opponent hitting percentage. The team ranked 49th nationally in blocks per game and second in the league.

Prior to her arrival at UT Martin, Bazin attended the University of Florida and played on the club volleyball team during the 2005-06 season. She earned a bachelor's degree in physical education in 2002, and worked as a graduate teaching assistant while pursuing a master's degree in health education and behavior. Bazin was named the 2005-06 Graduate Student Teacher of the Year in the Sport and Fitness Department, and completed her master's degree in 2006.

While in Gainesville, Bazin worked with the Gainesville Juniors club from 2004-06 and assisted the volleyball program at Buchholz High School from 1999-2005. Bazin started as the freshman team coach and finished her tenure as a varsity assistant coach from 2000-05, helping the Bobcats reach the state tournament each season.

She also gained experience working several summer volleyball camps. Bazin has worked the University of Florida camp for six summers, and has worked camps at the University of Tennessee, the University of Alabama and Idaho State University.

Prior to taking up volleyball, Bazin starred on a different court - the tennis court. The daughter of an Air Force colonel, she earned four letters playing at Houston County High School in Warner Robins, Ga.

In 2008, Bazin was one of 24 coaches selected to participate in the NCAA Women Coaches Academy in Atlanta. The academy offered a week of classes, seminars and training on various aspects of coaching and career development before an official graduation ceremony on the last night of classes.

Bazin, a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and her husband Nick reside in Atlanta with their dog, Max. The couple had their first child, Ada Leola, on May 28, 2009.
