Timothy Chavous joined the Georgia State Athletics staff in April 2026 as an Academic Advisor – Football Academics & Student-Athlete Development (PASS), where he works with the football program within the Office of Academic Support and Student-Athlete Development.
Prior to arriving at Georgia State, Chavous served as an Academic Advisor in the WellStar Department at Kennesaw State University while also working as an offensive analyst for the football program under head coach Jerry Mackduring the 2025-26 academic year. Before his time at Kennesaw State, Chavous worked as an Athletic Academic Advisor at St. Petersburg College from 2023-25 and as a Declared Academic Advisor at Virginia Commonwealth University from 2021-23.
Chavous also spent two seasons at Virginia Union University from 2019-21, serving as fullbacks coach and academic coordinator. Prior to that, he spent eight seasons at Saint Augustine's University from 2011-19, where he held multiple roles including head football coach, offensive coordinator, running backs coach and academic advisor. Chavous was named interim head coach during the 2015 season before officially earning the full-time position in February 2016. Under his leadership, the Falcons posted a 5-5 overall record and 5-1 conference mark in 2017, earning a share of the CIAA Southern Division Championship while narrowly missing the CIAA Championship Game. That season also saw the Falcons score 81 points in a game, marking the highest-scoring game in program history and the third-highest point total in NCAA Division II history.
During his time at Saint Augustine’s, Chavous emphasized academic achievement and student-athlete development. Numerous football student-athletes earned scholar-athlete recognition, Dean’s List honors, Provost’s List honors and President’s List recognition during his tenure. He also participated in the Team IMPACT program, which pairs college athletic teams with children facing serious illnesses. While serving as offensive coordinator and running backs coach, Chavous mentored All-CIAA First Team running back Roderick Davenport, who led the CIAA in rushing during the 2014 season with 1,133 yards.
Before arriving at Saint Augustine’s, Chavous spent seven seasons at Saint Paul's College from 2004-10 as running backs coach, running game coordinator and academic advisor. During his tenure, Saint Paul’s produced 20 All-CIAA players and seven 1,000-yard rushers. Chavous also served as the school’s head baseball coach from 2005-11, helping the program secure its first baseball victories in a decade, while additionally working in student affairs and student activities leadership roles.
Chavous began his collegiate coaching career at Virginia State University from 2001-04 as running backs coach and academic coordinator. Across more than 20 years in collegiate athletics, Chavous has coached numerous professional players, advised student-athletes academically and maintained a strong graduation rate through mentorship and academic support initiatives. He has also completed several professional development programs, including the NCAA-NFL Coaches Academy, NCAA Division II Identity Workshop, Fritz Pollard Alliance Academy and volunteer experiences with the NFL Combine and Reese’s Senior Bowl.
A native of Florida, Chavous starred at Lakewood High School in St. Petersburg before transferring to Amos P. Godby High School in Tallahassee, where he earned All-State honors and led his team to the playoffs. Following high school, Chavous attended Pasadena City College from 1995-97 before transferring to Bethune-Cookman University. Although injuries cut short his playing career, Chavous graduated with honors from Bethune-Cookman in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Recreation, launching a coaching and academic advising career that has spanned more than two decades.
