Sasa Pirc enters his second year as assistant coach at Georgia State University, joining head coach Miha Lisac after two years as an assistant coach for the women’s and men’s tennis teams at Hawai’i Pacific University.

 

At HPU he worked under head coach Henry Somerville where he helped coach the men’s team to the final round of the NCAA tournament.

 

Pirc also spent four years (2002-2004) at HPU as a student-athlete for the men’s tennis team where he was an All-American with an overall record of 21 wins and just two losses. In the 2002-03 season he was the runner-up for the National Championship, received First-Team All Pac West honors for both singles and doubles, and received All-Academic conference honors.

 

The Slovenia native received his bachelor’s degree in International Business from HPU in 2006. After graduating, he stayed close to the courts serving as a head tennis pro in Atlanta, Ga.

 

Before coming to the U.S., he was ranked in the top four in the under-18 group in Slovenia and was also a member of the young Davis Cup team from 1997-99 where he claimed the juniors double championship in 1998.
