Lisa Belcher, a former player and assistant coach at Georgia State, returns to her alma mater to begin her first season as head coach. Belcher graduated from Georgia State cum laude in 1992 and was a three-year letter winner. She continued at State earning her master’s and Ph.D. in psychology. Belcher was a Rhodes Scholar nominee in 1992 as well as earning Research Honors, Advanced Honors and a Senior Award. She was also the Georgia State representative for the prestigious Peach of an Athlete Award.

After completing her studies, Belcher spent many years working as a behavioral scientist at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and teaching courses in psychology and public health at Georgia State and Emory University.

Belcher spent the 2000-01 season as assistant coach of the Lady Panthers, under longtime former Director of Tennis Chuck McCuen. She has many years of experience coaching local juniors in area clubs and summer academies.

Belcher is a native of Atlanta, graduating from Ridgeview High School in Sandy Springs.
