LaMont Life joins Georgia State from the University of Tampa, where he served as Sprints & Hurdles Coach. With over a decade of coaching experience, he holds USATF Level 1 and Level 2 (Jumps) certifications as well as a USTFCCCA Master Endorsement in the Long Sprints.
At Tampa, Life guided the men’s team to six school records and a runner-up finish at the inaugural SSC Championship, while the women’s team captured the SSC title with sprinters and hurdlers contributing over half the team’s points. His efforts earned him the DII South Region Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year after his athletes posted 77 all-time performances in one season.
Before Tampa, Life spent three seasons with Jacksonville University, helping the men’s cross-country team to its best year in program history while also coaching multiple indoor and outdoor conference champions, NCAA qualifiers, and a two-time All-American. He also assisted in developing an athlete who qualified for the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials in the triple jump.
From 2015–2019, Life produced dozens of medalists at the youth level, including AAU Junior Olympic qualifiers and city championship teams. A Jacksonville native, he was a multi-sport athlete at Terry Parker High School before serving 21 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. He later earned his B.S. in Computer Studies from the University of Maryland Global Campus.
Life and his wife, Valencia, have four children—Kayla, Jazmyne, JJ, and Ari—and one grandchild, Mbur.
