Edward Tymes was elevated to the role of Graduate Assistant for the Georgia State men's tennis team in June 2025 following a five-year playing career with the Panthers. A standout performer both on and off the court, Tymes made a lasting impact during his collegiate career with consistent performances and leadership.
In his final season (Spring 2025), Tymes competed primarily at the No. 2 singles position, finishing with a 10-5 singles record and an 8-11 doubles mark. He posted a 4-1 record in conference singles play and earned victories over key opponents from South Alabama, Coastal Carolina, Chattanooga, Furman, and South Carolina State. His efforts earned him All-Sun Belt Singles First Team honors.
As a junior in Spring 2024, Tymes recorded a 12-7 singles record, highlighted by a 6-1 performance in Sun Belt matches. He split time between courts two and three and ended the season with seven straight singles wins, all in straight sets. He was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week twice and earned All-Sun Belt Singles Second-Team recognition. In doubles, he partnered primarily with Baran Soyler and Gabriele Datei, accumulating a combined 9-10 record.
During the Spring 2023 season, Tymes competed across several singles courts and posted an 11-11 record, with the majority of his matches played at the No. 5 position (8-7). He concluded the season with six straight singles wins and played a key role in Georgia State’s 4-0 sweep over Louisiana in the Sun Belt Championship quarterfinals. In doubles, he tallied six victories across multiple pairings.
In 2022, Tymes appeared mainly at the No. 6 singles court, finishing with a 3-2 record and notched a match-clinching victory against Stetson. He also competed in doubles with Patrick Lazo. His collegiate debut came in Fall 2021, where he went 3-1 in his opening weekend at the Panther Invitational and earned wins at several invitationals, including the ITA Southeast Regionals.
Prior to college, Tymes was a highly ranked junior player. He was the top-ranked USTA Boys 16s player in 2019 and ranked No. 5 in Boys 18s in 2020. His accolades include the 2019 Al Parker Jr. Tennis Player of the Year (USTA Southern), selection to the Bill Ozaki Southern Cup Team, and the Columbus Regional Tennis Association Jr. Player of the Year.
In the classroom, Tymes has also demonstrated strong performance, making the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in Spring 2025 and the Dean's List in Spring 2023, Spring 2022, and Fall 2021.
Edward Jerome Tymes Jr. was born on January 8, 2003, in Midland, Georgia, and is the son of Edward and Roslyn Tymes. He plans to pursue a degree in communications.
