Edgar Flores is in his fifth season as an assistant coach with Georgia State. Flores, serving as second assistant, came to the Panthers in 2007 from Oxford College of Emory University in Oxford, Ga. where he served as head coach from 2001 to 2007, compiling an impressive 75-34-8 record. During his time with the Panthers, he has been able to help lead the the team to four consecutive winning seasons and a first ever berth in the prestigious colonial conference final four.
From 2008-2011 Flores was able to lead the Galloway school in Atlanta to the state playoffs for the first time in the program's history, 2007. Flores was able to guide the Galloway Scots to their only two sweet 16 appearances (2008/2011). Flores led Galloway to the school's first area regular championship, when they were awarded the Area 10 regular season title in 2008. Several of the players earned All-Area and Region honors.
Since joining Georgia State, Coach Flores has also been able to train and coach players at the club level with the Gwinnett Soccer Association (GSA). With GSA, Flores has been able to experience success including winning tournaments like the Atlanta Cup and Germantown. Flores has also guided several teams to successful seasons, including helping three teams get promoted into higher level divisions. Many of coach Flores' players have been able to earn spots in college teams and are currently starters in many of the top high school soccer teams in the state.
Flores led Oxford College to its most successful season in 2006 by losing only two matches and capturing the District and Regional titles. The Eagles fought their way to the National Final Four semi-finals, only to be eliminated on penalty kicks. The team remained undefeated against Division III competition during the season. Oxford was ranked #1 in the nation by the NJCAA for the final six weeks of the season.
During his time as head coach, Flores guided the Oxford program to back-to-back Regional NJCAA Division I Championship Final Four appearances, in spite of being the only non-scholarship program in the Region at the time. Under Flores, Oxford shattered team records in goals scored, team goals-against average, shutouts, and All-Region and All-American selections. Flores produced more than 16 All-Region Players, an impressive 18 NJCAA Academic All-Americans, one NJCAA Division I All-American, three NJCAA Division III All-Americans, and two NSCAA All-Americans. His teams also traveled internationally and conducted preseason training at top soccer academies in Argentina, Brazil, and Spain.
Flores has also coached on the club level in Florida and Georgia, highlighted by a State Club Championship while coaching with the Blue Angels Club in Miami. Flores holds the NSCAA's Advanced National Diploma, National Diploma, and Euro 1996 Match Analysis Diploma.
As the son of a former professional soccer player, Flores was exposed to soccer at an early age. Born in Nicaragua, Edgar, spent much of his youth attending professional men's soccer practices and matches in which his father played or coached. His father was inducted into the Nicaragua Soccer Hall of Fame in 2004. Flores holds an undergraduate degree in physical education K-12 from Florida International University and a Master's degree in sports administration from Georgia State University.
Coach Flores will be joining Druid Hills High School, ranked among the best schools in Georgia and nationwide, teach Health and Physical Education and be the Head Boys Soccer Coach.
Coach Flores is married and resides in Atlanta. He and his wife had their first child, Olivia Sofia, in the summer of 2008. Flores and his wife volunteer with the Sheltie Dog Rescue.
