Dave Kaplan, formerly executive director and tournament director for the Atlanta Classic Foundation, Inc., was named Georgia State’s director of football operations in July 2009.
Kaplan directed and managed Atlanta’s former PGA Tour event, most recently known as the AT&T Classic, from 1983 through 2008.
Before his long stint with the Atlanta Classic Foundation, Kaplan served as the manager of public relations for Six Flags Over Georgia and as coordinator of special promotions for Lake Lanier Islands (1977).
Kaplan was the assistant sports information director at Georgia Tech from 1972-73, and sports information director from 1974-76, including one year while Bill Curry was an assistant football coach.
Active in the Atlanta community, Kaplan is the treasurer on the Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors and also serves on the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Sports Network Advisory Board and the First Tee-Atlanta Board of Directors.
A 1970 graduate of the University of Florida, Kaplan is married to the former Marcia Phillips, and the couple has one son, Chandler, who will graduate from the University of Mississippi in December, 2009.
