Bobby Perez joined the Georgia State staff as a volunteer assistant prior to the 2007 season. His duties with the Panthers include hitting and field maintenance.
He came to Georgia State after spending a year as a volunteer assistant coach at Division III powerhouse Emory University. With Perez on staff, Emory reached the No. 1 ranking in Division III and advanced to the 2006 NCAA Regionals. The Eagles finished the season with a 31-9 overall record.
Prior to his arrival at Emory, Perez played at the University of Louisville for two seasons. He was part of the 2002 Cardinal squad that finished with a 39-18 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Regionals, the program’s first appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
After his playing career ended, he stayed on as an assistant while completing his bachelor’s in exercise science. He earned his bachelor’s in 2003 and completed his master’s degree in exercise physiology in 2005.
Before playing at Louisville, Perez played two seasons at South Florida Community College near Tampa. The native of Valrico, Fla., starred at Durant High School before beginning his collegiate career.
During the summer of 2005, Perez worked at the prestigious IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., before joining the staff at Emory.
Perez married the former Cristina Conrad in July 2007. The couple resides in Decatur.
