2005-06: Liz returned to action for the Lady Panthers for the 2005 cross-country season. She ran a season-best time of 20.26 at the Georgia Collegiate Championship. In the spring, Liz ran a career-best 5:03.15 in the women’s 1500m to finish fourth at the UGA Invitational. At the CAA Track & Field Championships, Liz crossed the line 13th in 18:57.28. Liz was awarded the Bruce LaBudde award by the GSU athletic department for her respectful and unselfish attitude on her teams. In the spring, Liz achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA in the classroom and was named to the Faculty Scholar List, Dean’s List and Athletic Director’s Honor Roll at State. For her outstanding grades, Liz was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team and received a Commissioner’s Academic Award from the CAA.
2004-05: Liz competed in cross country in the fall as a sophomore, but did not compete in track. She ran a season-best time of 20:01 at the Greater Louisville Classic, and nearly matched that mark the following meet at the Georgia Collegiate Championship (22:04) where she finished 22nd. Stanford finished 14th at Troy’s Coach “O” Invitational and competed with the team at the A-Sun and NCAA Regional Championship meets.
2003-04: As a freshman, Liz began to contribute in cross country and both indoor and outdoor track. She was named to the A-Sun All-Academic team after the first semester and maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
In the fall, her first collegiate CC meet was a ninth place finish (fourth best on team) at the Western Carolina Invitational as the Lady Panthers finished first in the seven-team meet. Stanford finished 9th (18:46) at the Seminole Invitational, 11th (18:52) at the Georgia State Invitational, third (18:38) at the Georgia Collegiate Championship, and 72nd (19:47) at the Auburn Invitational. She was third in the 3k Troy State Invitational (12:01). She finished 22nd (19:28) at the A-Sun Championships and closed the season with the NCAA Regional with a 23:43 in the 6k distance for 101st overall.
Indoor track saw her run the mile at Clemson (13th, 5:22.53) and the 3,000 meters at Clemson (7th, 10:50.72).
Outdoor track season saw her run in the 1500, 3000 and 5000 meter races. In three 1500 meter events, her best was a 5:00.78 at UNCC. Her best 3000 meter run was at UNCC in 10:46.59 for 15th. In the 5000 races, she ran 18:59.70 for 10th at the Yellow Jacket Invitational and 18:32.39 for ninth place at the A-Sun Conference Championship Meet.
Prep: Liz Stanford was MVP for her cross country and track teams and won the Award of Excellence in Individual Sports at Barrie Central in Ontario. She competed at OFSAA in Cross Country and Track all four years in high school. Stanford ran a personal best of 4:53 for 1500m at OFSAA in 2001 and 10:47 for 3,000m in 2002. Her 5,000m personal best of 18:45 was run in Calgary in 2001.She also competed at the Canadian Junior Nationals in Cross Country and Track where she helped her team to a silver medal finish.
Personal: Stanford was born Nov. 8, 1985 in Barrie, Ontario. Liz is the daughter of Dr. Tim and Laurie Stanford. She has one brother and one sister.
