Jamaal Barnes was a sprinter at Auburn. He clocked a best 100m time of 10.87 and a 200m top time of 22.43. As a member of Auburn's 4x100m relay team, he qualified for the NCAA Regional with their best of 40.57. That relay team finished fifth at the Penn Relays in 40.63.

He has been an assistant track and field coach and substitute teach at Opelika (Ala.) High School since 2001.

Barnes is a native of Altanta, graduating from Chamblee High School. In 2004, he was fifth in the 100 meters in the state meet in 11.07.
