Garrett Hines, a 2002 Winter Olympic Silver Medalist in the four-man bobsled, joined the GSU Track and Field staff for the 2011 season, where he will help coach the short sprint events as a volunteer assistant coach.

A current Georgia State police officer, Hines graduated from Southern Illinois in 1992, and joined the Army soon after. While in the Army he racked up several accolades including 1998 Army Male Athlete of the Year, 1998 Commission Officer 2nd Lieutenant United States Army, the 2006 Global War on Terrorism Medal and 2008 United States Army Public Health Command Technical Bulletin Publication.

A year after earning his Olympic Silver Medal, Hines was a part of the 2003 World Championship bobsled team that won a silver medal. He earned recognition in magazines such as People, ESPN and Jet in 2002 following the Olympics.

The Chicago, Ill., native served on the United States Bobsled and Skeleton Board of Directors from 2002-05 and was named a 2010 African American Leaders of the 21st Century.
