Anderson Named GSU Student-Athlete of the Week

ATLANTA – Senior shortstop Taylor Anderson was a catalyst in leading the Panthers to a series win over Sun Belt Conference rival Georgia Southern, earning this week’s Georgia State Student-Athlete of the Week award, powered by the U.S. Marines.

GSU’s leadoff hitter, Anderson was superb in the three-game series, getting on base 7 of the 11 times (.636) with five hits and a pair of walks. She scored four runs, while driving in two more of her Panther teammates.

Her final game on her home field saw her go 3-for-3 plus a walk. Her final at bat on her home field was a sweet home run swing as she trotted a final trip around the familiar bases. That three-hit game upped her season average to .301, a third straight year over the .300 mark.

At shortstop on defense, she was perfect again with no errors, five assists and four putouts. The McDonough, Ga. product (Ola High School) will travel to Mobile, Ala. this week as the Panthers compete for a conference championship.

And, we can make this a birthday present for Anderson, who celebrates #22 on Wednesday, May 11. Of course, another good gift from her teammates could be a tournament win that afternoon.
