ATLANTA – Whitney Ravan of the women’s soccer team and Hannah Stefanoff of the cross country team have been named this week’s Georgia State Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Georgia Power.
Ravan, a senior from Whitewater, Colo., finished the weekend with three goals scored and one assist for seven points in two matches. She helped the women’s soccer team pick up a win and a draw in the Panthers’ first two home Sun Belt matches of the season. Ravan leads the team with five goals and one assist for team-high 11 points.
The forward scored the match-tying goal in the 87th minute Friday, Oct. 3, to complete the Panthers comeback against UALR and earn the team a valuable point in conference play. On Sunday, Oct. 5, she then recorded a career high five points in Georgia State’s 5-2 romp of Arkansas State on Sunday.
- Ravan established a new career high with two goals scored and she registered an assist.
- After Lauren Harriman opened the scoring, Ravan scored in the 18th minute to extend the Panthers’ lead to 2-0.
- Ravan then assisted on Rebecca Copeland’s first career goal in the 83rd minute to give GSU a two goal cushion.
- Three minutes later, she then bagged her second goal of the match to secure the 5-2 victory.
Stefanoff, a senior from Grandview Heights, Ohio, finished first of the 99 runners, including 49 Division I runners, to lead Georgia State to a win in the 9th annual JSU Foothills Invitational in Oxford, Ala. She helped the Panthers win this seven-team event, scoring 16 points, while crushing Sun Belt rivals Troy and Georgia Southern.
- She ran a 5k personal-best time of 17:26.52 to win the event by 25 seconds.
- Stefanoff also lowered her personal-best 5k time by 20 seconds.
- It was the fifth career race win for the two-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection.
