Georgia State Starts Sun Belt Action At Appalachian State

ATLANTA – Georgia State women's soccer travels north to kick off Sun Belt action against Appalachian State on Friday, Sep. 18 at 6:00 p.m. ET.

This contest marks the 16th time these two teams have played each other. The Panthers are 9-3-2 in the series, winning the previous matchup at home 1-0 on Sep. 18, 2025.

The Last Time Out

Georgia State faced Gardner-Webb, winning 2-0 thanks to two second-half scores. Junior Sunniyah Tucker scored the first goal of the match in the 64th minute, her fifth goal of the season. 

Freshman Brielle Delgado found the back of the net 9 minutes later, off an assist from Tucker, to bring the score to 2-0 in the 73rd minute. Junior goalkeeper Alondra Iriarte recorded a clean sheet thanks to five saves.

Offensive Powerhouse

Through eight matches, Georgia State is averaging 15.13 shots per game and 7.75 shots on goal per game, second and first in the Sun Belt, respectively. This has led the Panthers to the second-best scoring offense and to the second-best goal differential in the Sun Belt (13).

Senior forward Aaliyah Faddoul leads the Panthers with 16 points, ranking second in the Sun Belt and 16th in the nation. Tucker trails right behind her with 13 points, ranking third in the Sun Belt.

Scouting the Mountaineers

Appalachian State comes into the game 5-1-2 on the season, led by fifth-year Head Coach Aimee Haywood. The Mountaineers opened the season with a 3-0 loss against UNC Wilmington on Aug. 13. 

Since that match, Appalachian State hasn't lost, winning five games and drawing two. Their most recent result was a 2-0 road win against ETSU on Sep. 10.

Kickoff for the Panthers is set for 6:00 p.m. ET on Friday, Sep. 18.
