Stephens throws 9 strikeouts in Georgia State's 8-7 loss to Appalachian State

BOONE, N.C. -- Makayla Stephens was mowing people down on Sunday, punching out nine Appalachian State hitters over 6.2 innings of work, but Georgia State was unable to keep the momentum going, losing 8-7 to the Mountaineers. 
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Georgia State scored twice, with one run coming across on Dillyn Suggs' single.

The Mountaineers failed to push any runs across before the Panthers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Georgia State offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Chloe Hatcher and a two-run double from Maya Bagsby, which brought the score to 7-0 in favor of the Panthers.

The Panthers were unable to hold the lead, as Appalachian State scored eight times over the remaining seven innings to grab the 8-7 win.
