Panthers Fall Short in Close Battle with Georgia Tech

ATLANTA – Georgia State softball was unable to overcome an early deficit, falling 3-1 to Georgia Tech on Wednesday evening at Mewborn Field.

Briana Bower got the start in the circle for the Panthers, working all seven innings. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
Georgia Tech struck early, plating all three of its runs in the second inning on a two-RBI double to center, followed by an RBI single to take a 3-0 lead.

The Panthers answered in the fourth, as McKenzie Walker came around to score on an RBI single from Maya Bagby to cut the deficit to 3-1.

From there, it turned into a pitcher's duel, with Georgia Tech's staff shutting the door with a 3-1 victory.

GAME NOTES

» Georgia State's lone run came in the fourth inning on Maya Bagby's RBI single.
» McKenzie Walker led the Panthers at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a double and scoring the team's only run.
» Briana Bower tossed a complete game, striking out five and inducing nine groundouts.
» Georgia State pitchers limited Georgia Tech to 2-for-11 (.182) with runners in scoring position.

Georgia State travels to App State this weekend for a three-game conference series in Boone, N.C. First pitch is set for Friday at 6 p.m., continues Saturday at 3 p.m. and closes Sunday at noon.
