TROY, Ala. – Georgia State softball (19-13, 1-4 SBC) battled back late, but fell 4-2 to Troy on Saturday night at the Troy Softball Complex.
Brynn Belstle provided a strong effort out of the bullpen, tossing three scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out four.
Offensively, Georgia State totaled six hits, with Allison Jones leading the way with a 2-for-4 performance. McKenzie Walker added a double, while Lauren Brister drove in a run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Troy struck early, plating two runs in the second inning on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single to take a 2-0 lead.
The Trojans added to their advantage in the third, using a solo home run and an RBI double to extend the lead to 4-0.
Georgia State broke through in the fifth inning. Zoey Defoor came around to score the Panthers' first run, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
The Panthers continued to chip away in the sixth, as Jones scored on an single from Brister to make it a 4-2 game.
Georgia State held Troy scoreless over the final three innings, but was unable to complete the comeback.
