MACON, Ga. – Georgia State Men's Tennis battled back but could not rally the final point on Wednesday afternoon, falling to Mercer by a final score of 4-3 on the road.
The two teams played close on all three courts in doubles play, with the Bears winning 7-5 on court one and 6-4 on court two.
Gustav Andersson and
Sota Minami pushed their counterparts to a seventh point on court three, but the match was abandoned before it could be completed.
Mercer took singles points on courts one and two, putting the Panthers on the brink of being swept.
Aleksandar Andrin was the first to get Georgia State on the board, comfortably winning sets by scores of 6-2 and 6-1 after dropping the opening point 6-0.
Gustav Andersson added to the comeback effort, taking court six in straight sets, winning 7-5 and 6-4.
The singles efforts brought the Panthers within striking distance, but could not complete the comeback as the Bears secured the winning point on court number four.
