Panthers Take Winning Streak To ULM

ATLANTA – Georgia State women's soccer travels to Monroe, La. to take on ULM on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 8:00 p.m. ET.

This contest marks the 11th time these two teams have played each other. The Panthers are 7-1-2 in the series, winning the previous matchup at home 4-0 on Oct. 18, 2024. 

The Last Time Out

Georgia State faced Arkansas State, winning 2-0. The Panthers started the scoring in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute off a Hina Suzuki goal, her second of the season. Sophomore Carys Fraser delivered the assist.

Georgia State expanded its lead early in the second half, with Sunniyah Tucker scoring her seventh goal of the season in the 46th minute. 

The Panthers' defense held strong throughout the game, limiting the Red Wolves to just four shots on goal. Goalkeeper Alondra Iriarte made all four saves, leading Georgia State to its third straight win.

Streaking in the Sun Belt

After dropping the first Sun Belt matchup against Appalachian State, the Panthers have won three straight conference games. Georgia State picked up its first Sun Belt win against in-state rival Georgia Southern with a 2-1 home win. Himari Sato and Aaliyah Faddoul scored in the game.

On Sep. 27, the Panthers beat South Alabama 2-1. Tucker gave them an early lead with a first-half goal, and Naiya McFarlane scored the game-winner in the 76th minute.

Georgia State gained its third win in a row against Arkansas State on Oct. 2, winning at home 2-0. Suzuki and Tucker both scored and brought the Panthers to 23-1-0 in Sun Belt play.

Scouting the Warhawks

ULM comes into the game 3-9-1, led by first-year head coach Antony Blackburn. The Warhawks have gone 0-4-0 in conference play.

They opened Sun Belt action with a 1-0 home loss against Old Dominion and a 1-0 road loss at James Madison. On Sep. 27, they played Arkansas State, dropping the game 3-2, and a week later dropped their match against Louisiana Tech 3-2. 

Kickoff for the Panthers is set for 8:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, Oct. 8.
