Fray Sets a Meet Record in Samford Open

ATLANTA-- Georgia State's Zayna Fray set a meet record, and the Panthers clinched nine top five finishes at the Samford Open meet on Saturday afternoon.
 
 Fray continued her impressive start to the season with another first place finish in the weight throw. Her winning throw of 20.68 meters set the Samford Open record and ranks 17th across Division-I.
 
 The Panthers 4 x 400 relay team of Alonna Depalma, Keniya Walker, Kevell Byrd, and Destinee Frink finished second in the event with a time of 3:57.57.
 
 Jayla Kennedy made her mark Saturday with a second place finish in the 60-meter and a third place finish in the 200-meter with times of 7.36 and 24.80.  
 
 Ana Cubillo ran a personal best 10:17.21 in route to her third place finish in the 3000-meter. Maya Anderson also earned a third place finish in the 60-meter hurdles running it in 8.46 seconds.
 
 Georgia State secured three more top five finishes with Laila Reeves taking fifth place in the weight throw with a personal best distance of 16.45 meters. Kevell Byrd earned her fifth place spot in the 60-meter with a time of 7.64. While Keniya Walker ran the 400-meter in 56.28 seconds, which was good enough for fifth place.   
 
 
 Notes:
- Ana Cubillo finished sixth in the 1 mile with a personal best time of 5:01.27
- Destinee Frink placed 9th in the 3000-meter with a time of 10:40.17
- Nova Rhodes placed 9th in the long jump with a distance of 5.13m
 
 Georgia State will look to continue its winning ways on Sunday, February 1 at the USA Invitational.
